There has been a tradition of holding an Annual Flower & Vegetable Show in Marlow since 1895 when the Society promoting Horticulture in the Marlow and District was first formed.

The first show was held at Gyldernscroft Marlow in 1895 by kind permission of General Sir George Higginson KCB.

In 1905 the Annual Show was held in the grounds of Remnantz in West Street, which included Garden produce as well as Childrens Sports events. (see picture below)

During the 1920’s and 30’s Horticulture was very popular, Marlow was a thriving Riverside town and the Annual Flower Show was a regular event, below is a photo of Robert Wing from Berwick Road who regularly won many prizes in this period :

In 1953 the Elizabeth II Coronation Flower Show was held and there was a huge flower show and street party in Marlow. The town was decorated with three golden coronets, one erected above the obelisk at the top of the High Street and two others suspended across the High Street

As seen in these black and white photo’s below:

In 1969 when Percy Thrower hosted Gardeners World and Diana Ross topped the charts, today’s present format of our Marlow Horticultural Society commenced and regular speaker meetings have been held every month in Liston Hall, a Plant Sale is held in May and the Annual Show is held in August every year. ( as seen below )

This year’s Show was held on 26th August 2023 and once again the Judges commented on the high standard of produce having been grown. There were also popular craft and Junior section exhibits.
