Plants for small gardens by Ray Broughton

On Tuesday 10th March 2026 a good friend of Marlow Horticultural Society, Ray Broughton who has visited us on four previous occasions spoke on the subject of plants for small gardens, speaking about both vegetables to be grown on the allotment plot and colourful plants and shrubs for the garden offering all year round interest.

There were lots of tips such as blanching your celery and growing healthy leaks. Growing potatoes under barley straw to create a hot house for healthy potatoes and there were many interesting stories on the history of garden plants.  An enjoyable people evening was had by the 50 members and guests who were in attendance.

Ray trained at RHS Wisley and is a highly qualified horticulturist, teacher, lecturer and examiner, with over 30 years’ experience of addressing gardening clubs and societies.
